Early in May, I was lucky enough to be a part of a creative wedding photoshoot arranged by the lovely Karin at Stratton Court Barn in Oxfordshire.
Featuring a collaboration of truly talented and creative wedding professionals, I was asked by Karin to have the easiest job of turning up and taking some photos to tell the story of a fairy woodland wedding.
Images have already been shared on the online blog of Sparkle, Pearl & Lace and across social media by the creatives involved, so I thought it was time to share some images here and give a huge thank you and shout out to some truly amazing people.
Before we get to the images from the day, I wanted to share a bit about everyone involved, all of whom I do and would highly recommend for consideration for your wedding day, both talented in their chosen craft but amazingly nice and down to earth people as well.
The Venue: Stratton Court Barn
My home from home, family owned and run by the amazingly friendly and welcoming Wigmore family, Chris, Cathy and Jonathan. With the one and only Karin being not only the wedding coordinator extraordinaire but also creative genius, cookie baking queen and bride from one of the best weddings I have ever shot…and good friend!
Stratton Court Barn and gardens are an idyllic venue for your wedding day. Its rural North Oxfordshire location is set within beautiful countryside, yet close to Bicester and Oxford. The wonderful surroundings prove perfect when celebrating with family and friends.
The Flowers: Flowers by Kirsty
This was my first time working with sisters Kirsty and Rebecca, and creative doesn’t even come close! Seeing what they worked up from the initial plan proposed by Karin wasn’t anything short of breathtaking.
With bases in both Oxfordshire and London you only need to view the feedback and gallery to know Kirsty is somebody who clearly not only loves her work but is amazingly talented and would offer any wedding something unique and memorable.
The Dresses: Butterfly Bridal Boutique
With the shoot featuring 2 dresses, Rachel from Butterfly Bridal worked her magic offering 2 amazing dresses to fit into the plan with the stunning “Lainey” dress from Charlotte Balbier’s Willa Rose collection featuring for the indoor shots. Seriously flattering: wedding dress engineering at its best! Rachel from Butterfly Bridal supplied the dress and the headpiece (which was comfortable to wear, not just beautiful to look at!).
Located in Bicester, just minutes from the premier Bicester Village, Butterfly Bridal features more than 60 stunning wedding dresses to choose from our fairy-tale bridal gallery. Boasting designs by Enzoani, Essense, Blue by Enzoani, Benjamin Roberts, Diane Harbridge and Tia. Rachel and her team are especially proud to be Oxfordshire’s exclusive stockist of the beautiful San Patrick by Pronovias wedding dress collection.
The Cake: Batch17 Bakes
Helen did not disappoint with her bespoke feature cake for our shoot, handcrafted specifically for the fairy theme, I can heartily say Helens creations are amazingly both visually as a centre piece but also when eaten – be sure to check out her lemon drizzle cake if you ever come to an open day at Stratton Court, but be sure to leave me some!
Based in Bicester as well, Helen says her mission is to make the most delicious and beautiful cakes to make your occasion extra special. All of my cakes are handmade from scratch, with the best ingredients to ensure they are of the highest quality, and taste amazing. I take huge pride in the attention to detail that goes into all aspects of your cake, including all the handmade decorations, to ensure that all our cakes have the ‘Wow!’ factor!
The Food: Lemon Zest
I’ve had the pleasure of working several weddings where Lemon Zest are supplying the catering, and that means being fed some amazing food by the Amy and the team. As with everyone else, having the opportunity to go to town and design something a little more out of the ordinary than usual, Lemon Zest produced something magical that complemented the table decorations by Kirsty perfectly! From toadstools, to edible chocolate stones the food was even better tasting than it looked, and I didn’t think that would be possible!
Lemon Zest is a family run business founded in 2002. Feeling nothing leaves a more lasting impression than good food. That is why they use only the freshest ingredients to produce the very best dishes. Sourcing ingredients from local suppliers whenever possible, and keeping it seasonal and British wherever possible. The team understands the importance of attention to detail, timely delivery and of working closely with you, and the other suppliers you have chosen, to create the most perfect event. Just like their clientele no two events are ever the same, and they thrive on the fact and love creating new dishes for people that compliment their image and personality.
The Illumination: Oakwood Events
Early on in discussions, Karin had set up a mood board for ideas and we both shared some ideas featuring a number of Edison lightbulbs as something that we both felt made for a special woodland feel. Little did I know Karin was working her magic and planning something amazing with the equally amazing Oakwood Events! What Oakwood produced was amazing, when combined with the artistry of Kirsty in the setting of the barn, I could still be shooting the lighting centrepiece, it really was that epic.
Based near High Wycombe and primarily serving Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire, Oakwood spend most of their time in barns, marquees, halls and other beamed venues and should be on every list as with everyone else here.
The Horse Whisperer…and Make Up Master: Sarah Yeo
As with Lemon Zest, I’ve had the absolute pleasure of working at weddings before with Sarah and a nicer person you could not wish to meet, oh, and she’s quite amazing with make up! Aside from working her absolute magic on the day, and keeping me on my toes with her attention to detail Sarah showed she has an unknown skill in being our horse whisperer between shots early on in the day.
As an award winning make up artist, Sarah is based in Northamptonshire but works both nation wide and internationally such is the demand for her knowledge, approach and skill.
A final shout out must go to uber talented Warren Day, who works at Stratton Court but is a massively talented sign writer and model builder (including the amazing 3D seating plan), for something uniquely bespoke by way of seating plan or signage Warren is your man (please contact Stratton Court for more information).
With that massive block of text done, I will simply say again it was an absolute pleasure to spend a day working with such wonderfully nice and talented people, so thank you to everyone above for making my job the easiest of them all and I hope that the dream team gets to work together again soon.
